Casino myths debunked
Casinos generate folklore. None of it changes the arithmetic.

Key takeaways
- Every round is independent.
- Nothing is due.
- Systems rearrange results; they do not improve them.
- Licensed games are tested.
Eight myths
| Myth | Fact |
|---|---|
| A win is due after losses | Each round is independent |
| Betting systems beat roulette | The edge is the same on every bet |
| Online games are rigged | Licensed games are tested and monitored |
| Casinos change odds at busy times | RTP is a fixed setting |
| Bigger stakes improve the odds | Stake scales prizes only |
| Card counting works online | Not against continuous shuffling |
| Bonuses are free money | They are adverts with conditions |
| New players win more | No such mechanism exists |
The arithmetic is on casino game odds and roulette bets and odds.
Why they persist
People see patterns in chance. Any sequence looks like a story afterwards.
What is true
- Games differ in house edge.
- The same slot can run at different RTPs.
- Limits and stopping are always available.

Why doubling up fails
| Losses in a row | Next bet | Total staked so far |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | £8 | £7 |
| 6 | £64 | £63 |
| 9 | £512 | £511 |
Nine losses in a row on an even-money roulette bet is unlikely on any given run and certain over enough of them. The table limit or your balance stops the sequence, and the single win it was chasing was only ever £1.
Near misses
Two scatters and a third just off screen, or the ball landing beside your number, is an ordinary loss that looks dramatic.
How fairness is checked
Games offered in Britain are tested by approved test houses before release, and operators must monitor live results against expected returns.
Why it matters
"It is due" is the belief behind most chased losses. If you notice it, stop for the day: safer gambling.
